Watchung, NJ – A collective exhibition featuring the work of Spanish artist Angel Souto is currently on display at the Heinz W.Otto Gallery, part of the Watchung Arts Center. The “Love Exhibition“, which runs from January 15th to February 18th, has the theme of love and features a selection of paintings from several regional artists.

Angel is a contemporary Spanish painter residing in the US, who is gaining recognition abroad for the quality and originality of his art. His laborious paintings are characterized by their textures, use of asymmetrical balance, and linear compositions that flow smoothly into one another.

The unique aspect of this exhibition was that the jury consisted of all the other artists who had participated in the show. This meant that each artist had a say in which works were deemed the most outstanding, but they could not vote for their own work. It added an extra layer of complexity to the judging process, as artists had to balance their personal preferences with the overall quality of the pieces.

Despite the challenge, the jury ultimately selected Angel’s painting “A Carolina” as the Artist’s Choice Award.

This painting stood out not just for its technical excellence, but for its ability to evoke emotion and tell a powerful story. It was a testament to the creativity and skill of the artist, and a reflection of the high level of talent present in the exhibition as a whole.
The awarded painting features a couple dancing in traditional Galician attire and is an impressive example of the artist’s ability to convey his passion for Hispanic Celtic culture.

The canvas is part of his most recent work, which focuses on typically Galician Folk themes, such as lost stories of rural life, women, inequality, migration, and pilgrimage, but in a refreshing and contemporary style. His use of color, composition, and careful linear study allows the viewer to experience his creations in multiple ways.

The attention to detail and mastery in his work create a unique style that reflects his personal experiences as an immigrant and his ability to fuse different cultural influences into a cohesive and original style. His paintings are born from the diversity and beauty of the world around us, creating a sense of connection and understanding between different cultures and experiences.

“I feel grateful and honored that my artwork has been recognized in this exhibition,” said Angel. “Being selected as the award winner by my peers is an incredible honor. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers of the exhibition at the Watchung Arts Center, for providing a platform for artists like myself to showcase our work, as well as the other artists who participated in the exhibition for their support and inspiration”

The Watchung Arts Center is open to the public. Admission is free, and visitors are welcome to view the exhibition during regular museum hours.
