The art of painting is an incredibly versatile medium that allows artists to express their creativity and share their unique perspectives with the world. It captures moments, emotions, and thoughts in a way that words cannot.
As an artist, I believe that my paintings should tell a story, convey a message, and stimulate the viewer’s imagination.
One of the key elements of my painting style is the use of symbolism. Each painting is a reflection of my own experiences and observations of the world around me.
Beyond Words.
In my artwork, every element has symbolic significance, from the colors and compositions to the very names of the paintings themselves.
As someone who hails from a hometown that was famously ruled by the Romans, I’m deeply influenced by the ancient world. That’s why I love incorporating Latin language names into my artwork, as a way to pay homage to that legacy.
Each name is carefully chosen to reflect the underlying theme and message of the painting, I then choose a Latin phrase that encapsulates the essence of the artwork.
By infusing my paintings with these layers of symbolism, I hope to invite viewers on a journey of discovery and interpretation, encouraging them to explore the deeper meanings and connections that lie beneath the surface.

In many cultures, the moon represents time, cycles, and renewal.

Seen as a symbol of vitality, power, and life force.

The act of sailing is often seen as a metaphor for navigating the ups and downs of life

The idea of a trail or path is often used as a metaphor for this journey of self-discovery
Case Study:
Aurora ad Mare / Dawn at Sea
In this painting, titled “Aurora ad Mare,” I have used symbols to represent the dynamic character of life. The painting captures the duality of change, reflecting the relationship between opposing yet complementary forces.
• DAWN – The Begining
The symbology of dawn serves as a portal to new possibilities, a moment of transformation that represents the threshold of a new day.
• AWAKEN – The Transformation
As the moon relinquishes its place to make way for the rising sun, we witness the sun awakening from its slumber. It rises to dominate the sky, signaling a bright new beginning.
• SUN – Power and Vitality
With its fragmented face, the Sun represents the complexity of the universe and our place in it. As it becomes the most prominent figure in the painting, it embodies the delicate balance between opposing forces.
• THE TRAIL – Self Discovery
The wavy trail extending from the Sun serves as a reminder of its immense power and energy, and its role in shaping the cycles of life. It emphasizes its vital importance as a central force in the natural world.
• MOON – Intuition & The Unconscious Mind
The diminishing Moon, while smaller, remains an integral part of the Sun, representing the fading past.
The interdependent nature between the two celestial bodies illustrates the constant cycle of birth and death, the dynamic character of life.
• THE FISHERMAN – Perseverance & Patience
The artwork also features a lonely fisherman and his sailboat, symbolizing the human experience and the resilience required to face life’s challenges.
Viewers are invited to consider the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. The unpredictable forces of nature, represented by the crashing waves and the sea, remind us of the elements beyond our control.
• THE SAILBOAT – Freedom
The sailboat is a powerful symbol of freedom, self-reliance & personal responsibility, as the sailor must navigate the waters and make decisions to reach their destination. Its sail represents the power of wind, and the ability to harness one’s own direction in life.
The boat itself suggests a the journey of life and the power we have to choose our own path and direction.
SUMMARY
As an artist, my intention was to create a piece that celebrates the beauty and complexity of life. The painting reflects the interplay between light and darkness, hope and despair, and the ever-changing nature of existence.
It is obvious by now that I enjoy and strive to incorporate layers of meaning behind each brushstroke, just as one would layer paint onto a canvas. Thanks to the nature of my painting style, I’m able to convey messages that go beyond what meets the eye.
I hope that my artwork inspires viewers to reflect on their own experiences and find meaning in their lives.
